The Silent Auction
Could you go a weekend without talking? Would you do it to raise awareness about a critical issue facing Americans?
The goal of The Silent Auction is to get a conversation going without speaking a word. What do we need to talk about? The social and environmental impacts of coal mining in Appalachia. We rarely hear about this issue in the media. To bring attention to situation in Central Appalachia, we decided to challenge ourselves to be quiet. It’s an odd way to speak up, but the objective is to point out whose voices aren’t being heard–the communities affected by mountain-top removal in America.
The Silent Auction will take place December 4th to December 7th, 2009.
